Get Your Hyggee On This Season ( What You Want To Know Wednesdays )

The Fall Equinox has come and passed, but the cooler weather is sticking around. The lure of a cozy spot to curl up in is even more enticing this time of year.  Have you heard of the the Danish concept “hygge?” Pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah – it is the concept of being warm and cozy and is perfect for this time of year.  It has led many homeowners to ensure that their homes are inviting and comfortable.  Here are some tips to get your hyggee on this season!

Keep the heat in – make sure your home has proper insulation and you are not losing your warm air to the elements.

Seal all problem spots – foam sealant can work wonders at keeping the cold air out and warm air in. Apply it to the exterior walls of your home, and anywhere plumbing or ducts go into a wall.

Layer rugs – Cold floors are the culprits for cold toes. Minimize exposure to cold floors by overlapping rugs.

Bring furniture inward – It may seem a little silly, but pulling your furniture in towards the center of the room will help keep you away from drafty windows.

Bundle up – Who doesn’t like to cuddle up under a fuzzy blanket? Keep throw blankets on or near couches so you do not have to transfer them from room to room. They can also create a warmer and more inviting environment.
